Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a quiet community situated in the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. People unfamiliar with the term frequently think that it's a separate island somewhere in the west of Montreal but in fact it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from the city of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is frequently known as the place where she was born. However, she only stayed there for a short period of time. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. She wanted to become professional, however due to an explosive increase in her height, she outgrew every dance partner she met. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." As I got bigger than my male dancers, I decided to quit. Some former dancers switch to acting and in Brugel's case it was the nudge of a high school drama teacher which led her in the right direction. She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated at the age of 20 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Over the last 20 years, her work has been featured on both the small and big screen. She gained the most attention when she won her role as Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in Season 1 which was viewed only at times.
